AT&T has been recognized by BusinessWeek one of the world's top 50 innovative companies.
In their report, they also provide a very well done interactive table where you can drill down into AT&T's specific performance ratings.
While this is quite an accomplishment for the phone company as we no longer know it, I see the real innovation from AT&T as coming from you.
They are just the enabler. YOU are the new innovator.
AT&T has the plumbing, the technology and the ability to deploy a wide variety of three-screen based communications and entertainment services to you.
So that this transition is starting to happen, what do you do with it?
Don't just think about consuming and being entertained with media.
Think about creating your own.
1. Buy a simple and innexpensive digital camera that can record video and start broadcasting. Apply the principles of what my friend and client, Chris Brogan talks about extending the conversation.
2. Start watching Internet based TV Shows like PromQueen, WallStrip, or RocketBoom. And keep that dial on your computer tuned to Network2, (disclosure: day job client) a long-tail TV guide if you will to serialized Internet based TV content.
3. Let your data go wild! Go to your local Cingular / AT&T Mobility store and check out the latest data-focused mobile devices like the BlackBerry Pearl or the 8800. The shift here is going from voice to liberating your voice and having the freedom to roam, be more mobile, keep in touch, be productive, and incorporate your personal and business life so you have more options on managing your time.
4. Spend time on YouTube or Veoh and start thinking about how you could start creating and broadcasting your own videos. Create a community. Connect with your family through video. Raise your own profile in your company or promote your own expertise in a particular field of study, work, or just a life interest.
5. Embrace Web 2.0 in your personal and business life. Wanna keep up with what's new? Read Engadget, Gizmodo, TechCrunch, GigaOM and All Things Digital.
These are just a few suggestions.
